If you are boarding a car, do not use the pedestrian route: follow the vehicle access, presentation time and instructions supplied by your operator. Staying nearby helps you rest after the drive, but does not remove port checks, queues or disruption.
Algeciras serves Ceuta and Tangier Med. Tarifa serves Tangier Ville. Do not choose accommodation from the word “Tangier” alone: check the exact port printed on the ticket.
Tarifa is about 22 km from Algeciras and the drive can be around 15 minutes in light traffic, but takes longer in summer, at weekends, during peak hours and on busy OPE travel days.
During the Operación Paso del Estrecho, large numbers of families and vehicles cross the Strait. An overnight stop in Algeciras can help after a long drive, especially with children or luggage, but you must check current access conditions and the presentation time for your specific sailing.
Schedules, traffic arrangements and requirements can change. Review current information from your ferry operator, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras and the traffic authorities before the final leg.
Spain's Operación Paso del Estrecho 2026 runs from 15 June to 15 September. Protección Civil advises travellers to plan the journey and arrive with a confirmed ticket for a specific sailing, purchased sufficiently in advance.
Operation Marhaba 2026 began on 10 June and its reception arrangements remain in place until 15 September. The Mohammed V Foundation confirms that a Marhaba reception facility operates in Algeciras for Moroccans living abroad.

Hawkins Costa is at Calle Joaquín Costa 5, on a pedestrian street, so you cannot drive to the door. Hawkins Suites is at Calle Santísimo 2, on a narrow old-town street. We do not promise private parking or parking at the entrance.
Before booking, plan building access, luggage unloading and the later drive to the port vehicle controls. The vehicle entrance is different from the foot-passenger route.
